Notes about the coronavirus

The topic of coronavirus has been on our minds for several days now and we take it very seriously. And, of course, we have also noticed that swimming events are cancelled. On the other hand, most events are still being held as planned. This has to be decided on site and we understand the organizers who decide one way or the other. Currently, the city of Essen does not give any recommendations to cancel events, but there are recommendations to take appropriate preventive measures. Therefore, we will organise the Essen Swim & Fun Days this year as planned, but we will fully implement the recommendations of the city of Essen.

Documentation recommendation/attendance lists
The city of Essen recommends that for organised events such as the Swim & Fun Days, a list of attendance should be kept in which the following details are included:
Name, first name, address, telephone availability.
For this purpose we will provide a form on our homepage which can be downloaded and brought to the event. It is important that a separate form is filled out for each day. Of course these forms are also available in the entrance area so that you can fill them in before entering the competition hall.
We ask for your understanding that we cannot grant access to the swimming hall to visitors who are not willing to provide their personal data for data protection or other reasons. This regulation does not apply to the participating athletes whose names are available to the organizer.
Reason for this measure: Events can help to spread the coronavirus more quickly. In order to prevent the viral spread in the event of an infection of participants detected in the aftermath of an event, it is essential that the other participants in the event are identified immediately. For this purpose, it is urgently necessary to collect the above-mentioned data.

The city of Essen also recommends the following courses of action:

  • Avoid shaking hands and coughing
  • If you cough or sneeze, use a disposable handkerchief (dispose of the handkerchief directly) or
  • hold the crook of one’s arm in front of one’s mouth and nose
  • Frequent washing of hands with soap and water, especially after personal contact, before meals and after visiting sanitary facilities

Hint:
No additional hand disinfection is necessary for protection against corona viruses, as the virus is very unstable and is already inactivated by adequate hand washing The wearing of a mouth and nose protector is not necessary Persons with cold symptoms should not participate in the Swim & Fun Days in their own interest.

Furthermore, we rely on the support of parents, trainers and carers when it comes to familiarising children with the protective measures and pointing out that they should observe them.
Dear friends of swimming, we are confident that all participants and visitors of the 20th Essen Swim & Fun Days will understand these recommendations and measures and will act accordingly.
We are looking forward to welcoming you at the Swimming Centre Essen-Rüttenscheid and to experiencing a great event with exciting and top-class competitions.

With kind regards
Bernhard Gemlau / Chairman SG Essen
